Launched in February 2020, the Pacto Português para os Plásticos (Portuguese Plastics Pact) is led by Smart Waste Portugal, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and General Directorate of Economy.
The Portuguese Plastics Pact has set ambitious 2025 targets, which include:
Defining, by the end of 2020, a list of single-use plastic items deemed problematic or unnecessary, and determining measures for their elimination, through redesign, innovation or alternative (reusereuseThe repeated use of a product or component for its intended purpose without significant modification.) delivery models
Ensuring that 100% of plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable
Effectively recycling 70% or higher of plastic packaging by increasing collection
Incorporating on average, 30% of recycled plastic in new plastic packaging
