Membership status: Strategic Partner
Syensqo originated from the split of Solvay into two independent companies in December 2023. The company is headquartered in Belgium and employs more than 13,000 people in 30 countries.
Inspired by the scientific councils that Ernest Solvay initiated in 1911, Syensqo is a science company developing groundbreaking solutions designed to contribute to safer, cleaner, and more sustainable products found in homes, food and consumer goods, planes, cars, batteries, smart devices, and healthcare applications.
As a continuation of the existing Strategic Partnership with Solvay, which joined the Foundation's Network in 2018, Syensqo signed a Strategic Partner agreement in January 2024, focusing on advancing the transition to a circular economy in the chemical sector. The Strategic Partnership underscores Syensqo’s commitment to actively contribute to the transformation of value chains to circular business models.
Currently, over 80% of Syensqo’s innovation pipeline is dedicated to crafting sustainable solutions, and we aim to enhance the adoption of circular practices by committing to increase circular sales to 18% by 2030. Chemistry is a potent catalyst for material transformation, and in our capacity as a worldwide manufacturer and provider of advanced materials and specialty chemicals, Syensqo plays a pivotal role in this system. It is only through chemistry that we can achieve the reuse of products while maintaining their quality and value. Our sustainability commitments are therefore centered around the three areas where we believe we can have the greatest positive impact: Climate and Nature, Sustainable Growth, and Better Life.
Ilham Kadri, CEO, Syensqo
We are delighted to renew our Strategic Partnership with Syensqo and welcome its strong commitment to developing circular solutions in ways that can benefit the environment, society, and the economy. Chemicals are part of every industry’s value chain, therefore we see this as an exciting opportunity to help transform a sector which has a pivotal role to play in the transition to a circular future.

The circular economy in action at Syensqo: strategic innovation platforms
The company is committed to adopting circular practices that eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials, and regenerate nature in several areas — including developing products that are circular by design, transitioning to plant and bio-based feedstocks, and transforming waste into new feedstocks for other products and industries.
Syensqo’s growth platforms drive the company’s innovation agenda and are designed to accelerate the path to a circular future:
Battery materials that drive the next generation of batteries by making batteries reusable on a mass scale and enabling a circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature. across the battery value chain.
Advancing thermoplastic composites to decarbonise three industries: aerospace, mobility, and energy.
Accelerating the green hydrogen economy to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
The use of renewable materialsrenewable materialsMaterials that are continually replenished at a rate equal to or greater than the rate of depletion. and biotechnology to redefine how chemicals are produced, by combining chemistry and biology to convert renewable feedstocks into valuable and sustainable solutions.
