WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme), together with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, launched The UK Plastics Pact in April 2018. It is supported by DEFRA (Department for Food and Rural Affairs) and led by WRAP.

By 2025, The UK Plastics Pact aims to:

  • Eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging through redesign, innovation, or alternative (reusereuseThe repeated use of a product or component for its intended purpose without significant modification.) delivery models

  • Ensure 100% of plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable

  • Effectively recyclerecycleTransform a product or component into its basic materials or substances and reprocessing them into new materials. or compost 70% of plastic packaging effective

  • MaintainMaintainKeep a product in its existing state of quality, functionally and/or cosmetically, to guard against failure or decline. It is a practice that retains the highest value of a product by extending its use period. a 30% average of recycled content across all plastic packaging
