Development or revision of regulations, standards or guidelines (e.g. standards for on-pack recyclability claims): Since October 2020 until December 2021, the Chilean Standard prNCh3726 about requirements for plastics designed to be composted in domestic compost bins is been developed.
Establishment or revision of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes: In March 2021 the EPR packaging regulation was approved which establishes ecomodulation of rates with bonus / malus considering the complexity of carrying out the recycling material of packaging waste at the local level, among other criteria.

Delivery of awareness raising and education campaigns: Chilean Plastics Pact (PCP). Between December 2020 and January 2021, the digital campaign “7 Reasons to Unite: Stories of Chileans that can Change the World” was carried out with the aim of sensitizing citizens about their role in the plastic value chain and the impact of their actions and habits in the environment.
Encouragement of voluntary actions: Chilean Plastics Pact (PCP, for its abbreviation in Spanish). In June 2021 a guideline for the use of compostable items was published.

Promotion of collaboration with the private sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and civil society organisations: As of July 7th 2021, 1460 products have the #ElijoReciclar label, a public-private pilot initiative signed in 2019 to trial a recyclability label for packaging.
To obtain the #ElijoReciclar seal, each packaging must go through a certification process that ensures that:
• At least 80% of the weight of the packaging is made of technically recyclable materials.
• These materials can be separated from the rest of the packaging for recycling.
• There is currently a demand from the recycling industry.
Support for research and development of innovative solutions: In 2021 an open innovation program called "The plastic evolution" was developed which was aimed at startups from anywhere in the world that have solutions ready to be implemented in Chile.

Other actions taken: In May 2021 a bill was approved that limits the delivery of single-use products in restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, bars, bakeries, tea rooms and other similar establishments that sell prepared food. For on-site consumption, it bans the delivery of single-use products of any material. For off-site consumption (i.e. delivery and takeaway), selected single-use products can only be plastic if it is biobased compostable (certified by the Environment Ministry).
