In 2020, Albéa has maintained its efforts to propose recyclable alternative solution to multilayer tubes and obtained the recognition of its Greenleaf technology by Recyclass (recognized as compatible with HDPE recycling stream), following the one from APR in 2019. Albea also developed Reflex tube, a plastic tube with a metallic aspect but no metal, so as to be recyclable in HDPE recycling stream. In 2020, Albéa also launched a working group to homologate & propose carbon-free black masterbatch for tube applications. In 2020, in order to replace non-recyclable resin such as ABS, SAN & PETG, Albea has developed a new range of standard compacts made fully of PET (previously made of ABS), as well as a range of monomaterial PP cosmetic jars, mascara & lipstick.

For cosmetic, pharma & oral care applications that use multilayer Alu-barrier tubes, Albéa will continue to develop recyclable plastic barrier alternatives, following the Greenleaf tube launch in 2019.

- Recyclable Greenleaf tube is targeted to replace Alu-barrier tubes at most oral care customers (50% of volume in weight at Albéa), but also for some cosmetic applications.

- For applications with higher barrier needs, Albéa is planning to develop new recyclable alternatives in the spirit of Greenleaf.

Regarding substitution of ABS & SAN in cosmetic rigid packaging, Albéa will progressively replace ABS/SAN with PET or PP for every new design and consider alternative materials. For substitution of PETG/PCTA, Albea is studying with its suppliers recyclable PET for cosmetic packaging following recyclability guidelines from APR and RecyClass.

Albéa’s Innovation & Development team has set as a priority the development of reuse systems for cosmetic packaging. Over the reporting period, Albéa has:

- Developed new refillable lipstick solutions,

- Designed several new concepts for refillable compacts to be launched before 2025, among them the Clip-Case refillable compact

- Kept building relationships with external players working with returnable systems to understand their washing process and requirements for packaging to be reusable

Regarding non-consumer facing packaging, Albéa had already in place several reuse systems for transport packaging (used to deliver our packaging to customers such as boxes and trays). For the 2020 reporting year, this type of packaging is not included & reported here.

We believe reuse systems to be a solution for cosmetic luxury market. We will keep developing solutions, design, especially for jars, lipstick & compacts. Testing customer behaviour & adhesion to this system in the following years. We plan to launch reuse systems for more than 20 products by 2025, aiming to save up to 500 tons of packaging per year as of 2020. Our objective is to develop reusable solution that remains recyclable as well.

- Greenleaf technology, the 1st recyclable laminate tube for oral care & cosmetics is well positioned to substitute non-recyclable ABL tubes. This tube is recognized by APR and RecyClass as compatible with the HDPE recycling stream. It represents a potential substitution of 15000 tons of non-recyclable tubes.

- (Re)flex tube, a tube with an ultra-thin metallized layer that allows to replace non-recyclable ABL tubes used for “alu-like” aesthetic effect. First generation of this tube was certified for the mixed PO stream. A new generation is being developed to achieve compatibility with HDPE rigid.

- HDPE flip-top and screw caps for tubes offer a 100% PE plastic tube.

No - We believe the packaging category(ies) 'PE tubes' (representing 0.8% of our portfolio), meet the thresholds of recyclable 'in practice and at scale' of 30% recycling rate for at least 400 million people (see endnotes for more information).

100% reusable, recyclable or compostable

Tubes represent 80% of our plastic packaging portfolio by weight. Albéa will maintain efforts to increase their recyclability, working with recycling experts such as APR & Recyclass, to ensure tubes design for recycling via removal of aluminium barrier & carbon black colorant. With regards to Rigid Packaging, Albea has decided to step away from ABS/SAN/POM and move to recyclable materials, or even mono-material solutions, to encourage recyclability of the small rigid cosmetics items. For bottles currently in PETG, Albéa plans to introduce recyclable PET. We don’t see opportunities for compostability in our applications at this stage.

Albéa will continue the collaboration to increase tube recycling rate with: - Further testing to adjust tube design and achieve design for recyclability - Strengthening relationships with RecyClass and APR, with membership started respectively in 2020 and 2021. - Active participation to technical committees and working groups of these organisation (decoration, model bale specifications...) In general and for all its packaging categories, Albéa will keep developing partnerships with recycling industries and associations to run sorting & recycling tests on cosmetic packaging to assess & improve their recyclability status.

Albéa has been working actively on identifying, qualifying, and securing PCR plastics sourcing for all its product lines:

- Development of a homologation process of mechanically recycled resins to guarantee safety as there is a lack of EFSA position on PP and HDPE PCR resins

- Homologation of PCR PP, PE and PET suppliers for cosmetic applications across all regions: Asia, Europe and USA

- Development of PCR web-based tube in addition to the available PCR extruded tubes.

- Development of solutions with up to 100% PCR for mascaras, compacts, jars and bottles.

- Launch of the first tube with chemically recycled material certified via the ISCC mass balance scheme

- ISCC certification of several of our manufacturing sites

The main planned actions to reach our 10% PCR use target by 2025 is:

- Offer mechanical PCR solutions in our all product categories, using the best quality & secured supply

- Qualify & propose chemically recycled PE, PP and PET for all our applications.

This report focuses on the plastic packaging manufactured by Albéa’s manufacturing facilities and excludes all IBG division activity (plastic packaging sourced directly from 3rd parties as per customer requests), which represents about 10% of Albea's turnover. Albéa does not intend to collect information within the next 2 years. This report also excludes all tertiary packaging of our activities (PACK OUT): Albéa intends to collect information on tertiary packaging within the next 2 years.

The difference between 2018 and 2019 was below 5%. The total plastic packaging weight of 2020 is lower than that of 2019 by approximately 15% for 3 reasons: - The COVID situation in 2020 had significant business impact for our customers and Albéa. - We have changed the product portfolio weight calculation systems & methodology in 2020, using IT systems to extract more accurate estimations of packaging weight. - Albéa divested its dispensing activities in 2020, which thus will not appear anymore.

To claim recyclability of our packaging (meeting the 30% recycling rate threshold for at least 400 million people), we used the following evidence: According to RecyClass, COTREP, CITEO, cyclos and APR, PE tubes are considered along HDPE other rigids category for recycling and not as separate category for recycling. Because these is evidence that there is a system for recycling for HDPE other rigid as per the 2021 Recycling Rate Survey, PE tubes would enter this same system and achieve step 1. For this reason we believe that PE tubes should be included in the HDPE other rigid category and not as a separate category.

We considered as designed for recycling packaging 100% PP jars and tubes for which an APR or Recyclass recognition has been granted: the Greenleaf laminate tube and the extruded tube technology with 35 diameter min. Both were recognized as compatible with the HDPE recycling stream. We excluded all other Plastic Barrier Laminate tubes for which we have no confirmation at this stage.
