Organisation: ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability
Focus Area: ICLEI is the leading global network of 1,700+ cities, towns and regions committed to building a sustainable future. Through our collective efforts, we impact more than 25 percent of the global urban population.
ICLEI's circular development projects and initiatives tackle issues of production, consumption and waste prevention from multiple perspectives - from facilitating innovation in the waste management sector to fostering citizen participation in decisions about resources and waste. ICLEI provides guidance and training on the implementation of integrated Circular Development measures. Examples of projects include:
Circular public procurements
We are working on supporting municipalities in embedding circular principles in their public procurement, including lifecycle costing, local sourcing, low embodied energy and water and cradle-to-cradle management of resources. For more information on circular procurement, please refer to our Best practice report and Case Study Collection.
Food systems
Our CityFood network aims to accelerate local and regional government action on sustainable city-region food systems by combining networking with training, policy guidance and technical expertise to its participants.
