The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has been working with the Mayor of London and ReLondon to support an urban food transformation in the city.
As partners to the Food Flagship Initiative, our three organisations have worked with stakeholders across London’s food value chain to develop groundbreaking insights on its food footprint, which have in turn informed targeted interventions.
However, across London there is a patchwork of growers, distributors, restaurants and innovators already taking action to help realise a circular urban food system transformation. London’s Circular Food Pioneer Projects recognises some of the most exciting initiatives already underway in the city.
Circular Food Pioneer Projects
To achieve the FFI vision for a circular urban food system, the FFI have established the Circular Food Pioneer Project status to recognise and support innovators and organisations in the city leading the transformation.

A vision for food in London
The Food Flagship initiative has adopted a vision for a food system fit for the future that allows both nature and people to thrive. The vision involves reimagining how food is produced and consumed, while never being wasted.
The vision has three key points:
Food is sourced through agroecological practices, and locally where possible
The prevalence of healthy and sustainable food items and menus are increased
Avoidable food waste is eliminated and unavoidable food waste is recycled back into productive uses
