We are delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Cain to our US Board of Trustees.
Michael’s extensive experience, expertise, and industry network will support the Foundation’s ambition to create impactful stories that can help accelerate the global transition to a circular economy.
In addition to our broadcast content — including The Circular Economy Show and Podcast — we are working with our new Strategic Partner, WaterBear, which has appointed Michael as a US adviser, to create a series of films, social media content, and events.
As an Executive Producer, and President of M3 Films for the last 20 years, Michael has gained recognition for his award-winning, socially relevant documentary films.
He directed and produced the documentary TV Junkie for HBO’s Addiction series — winning the Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize — and partnered with The New York Times on a drug prevention film and educational program, Faces of Addiction, that won an AVA Award and was nominated for a PRISM Award.
In addition to producing more than 20 feature films for the HBO and Showtime television networks, Michael has also founded and launched a number of mission-driven film organisations and events, including Arts Fighting Cancer, the Deep Ellum Film Festival, Santa Monica International Film Festival, Dallas Film Society, AFI DALLAS International Film Festival, and the Dallas and International Film Festival, as well as EarthxFilm and EarthxTV.
In partnership with EarthX and EarthxFilm, M3 Films and Michael produced the US Premiere of The Way of The Rain: Hope For Earth, a multi-disciplinary performance created and directed by Sibylle Szaggars Redford and narrated by Robert Redford. M3 Films and INDEWORKS presented a preview of the Environmental Symphony at the 2023 EarthX E-Capital Summit, and will host the full premiere of ES: The Movement at the UN General Assembly in October 2023.
“I believe that film and media can, more than anything, change people’s hearts and minds towards positive solutions, and thereby change the world for the better. At M3 Films, mission-driven storytelling is our primary focus. We create content that moves, engages, and transforms an audience's perspective — an approach that the Ellen MacArthur Foundation is also taking to support its mission to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
“As a mission-driven organisation, committed to creating an economy that not only restores, but actively improves the world we live in, I have long admired the Foundation and its work. I am delighted to be joining the US Board of Trustees.”

“We are delighted to welcome Michael as a Trustee. By bringing his extensive experience and expertise from the world of filmmaking — as well as new collaboration opportunities through his vast network — he will provide invaluable knowledge and guidance to the Foundation, supporting our ambition to create impactful stories that can accelerate the global transition to a circular economy.”
