Support from players of People's Postcode Lottery - awarded through the Postcode Earth Trust - has been fundamental in helping tackle global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste and pollution, through our work to accelerate the transition to a circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature..
In 2022 the Foundation was awarded £1.25 million from the Postcode Innovation Trust Dream Fund, thanks to funds raised by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, in support of The Big Food Redesign Challenge; a project that aims to see nature positive food on supermarket shelves in the next two years. The Dream Fund has been critical in kick-starting some of our largest initiatives, including £500,000 for the New Plastics Economy in 2016, and £1 million for Make Fashion Circular in 2019, helping redesign global plastics systems and the fashion industry respectively.
Players of People's Postcode Lottery first funded the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2016 when, along with the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, they won £500,000 to fund their dream project - The New Plastics Economy. Since then the relationship has gone from strength to strength and I am delighted that our players are now able to support the Foundation as a long-term supported charity of People's Postcode Lottery.
