The Circular Economy in Cities: resources suite
A suite of resources for urban policymakers and change-makers.
Organisation: C40 Cities
Focus Area: C40 Cities connects 96 of the world’s greatest cities to take bold climate action, leading the way towards a healthier and more sustainable future. Representing 700+ million citizens and one quarter of the global economy, mayors of the C40 cities are committed to delivering on the most ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement at the local level, as well as to cleaning the air we breathe.
C40 has multiple research projects and networks exploring how city governments can take a lead in the transition to a circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature., and provides tools, knowledge sharing and support for cities to plan, measure and implement action.
C40 links the importance of a circular economy to the reduction in a city’s carbon emissions, alongside wider social, economic and environmental benefits for sustainable development.
